The programme “SOUND of UKRAINE” presented by the musicians is inspiring:
1st part
Lyatoshinsky Symphonic Ballad «Grazhyna»
Skoryk Symphonic Suite «Stone Owner»
2nd part
Dvorak Symphony No.9 «From the New World»
About the concert programme selection Volodymyt Syvohyp, General Director of the LVIV NATIONAL PHILARMONY has said: “For the concert we have chosen Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, which is closest to us, Ukrainians, among the traditional romantic European symphonies in spirit and style. This composer is Antonín Dvořák. That is why Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” is so close to us, because Ukraine today is this new world and we declare ourselves to the world as such. A country that is being born, a country that is fighting, a country that is winning.
I also believe that the symphony concert will be a really great presentation of Ukrainian music. Finally, we will perform Boris Lyatoshynsky’s “Grazhyna” as well as Myroslav Skoryk’s “The Stone Master”, the classics of Ukrainian symphonic music. The orchestra and I have already performed these works in Poland and Sweden, and now we will present it in Germany

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
– Borys Liatoshynskyi (1894-1968).
“Grazhyna”. Symphonic Ballad (after Adam Mickiewicz) (1955)
The symphonic ballad “Grazhyna” by the well-known Ukrainian composer Borys Liatoshynskyi is based on the ballad by the famous Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. The idea of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others and love for the fatherland is contained in the plot of the composition. According to it, Grazhyna sacrifices her life to save her husband, Prince Litavor. Litavor burns in the flames when he learns of his wife’s tragic death and tries to atone for his guilt and find forgiveness from his homeland.
– Myroslav Skoryk (1938-2020).
Symphonic Suite “The Stone Master” (after Lesya Ukrainka)
Symphonic Suite “The Stone Master”, denoted by the deep drama, emotional intensity and ornate use of timbres, is impressive. This music is able to touch the most hidden strings of the human soul. Myroslav Skoryk’s suite for Lesya Ukrainka’s drama “The Stone Guest” reveals other colours of the maestro’s talent – the extraordinary theatricality of his music, themes and melodies that remain long in the memory.
Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904)
Symphony No. 9 in E minor “From the New World” (1893)
Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 bears the subtitle “From the New World”. When the Czech composer wrote this work at the end of the 19th century, he recorded in the score his impressions of the American continent, its music and folklore. At that time, America was a new, unexplored world for Europeans that aroused great interest and admiration. Today, Ukraine and its people, who courageously stand up to the invaders and protect and defend what is most important – independence – have become this new world for everyone.
